Since our inception, The 160th SOAR(Abn) has filled its ranks with “tested volunteers.” This means that all Commissioned Officers must apply and assess for service in the 160th. This application process begins when you submit your packet and ends when you report for duty.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified in one of the authorized MOS
- Open to Active Duty
- National Guard and Reserve Officers contact a 160th SOAR recruiter to discuss transfer requirements prior to beginning the application process
- Have or be able to obtain a TOP SECRET security clearance
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be financially stable
- Be in good physical condition
- Pass a standard ACFT
- Be IAW AR 600-9
- PULHES of 111211 with no physical limiting profiles
- Be in KD position or KD complete (Nonrated Officers)
- Be a Pilot in Command (PIC)*
- 500 military flight hours or 50 PIC rotary hours, if less than 500 hours*

OFFICER CAREER PATH
The following is a general overview of the process for becoming a Night Stalker
and a member of the United States Army Special Operations Aviation Command.
Since our inception, The 160th SOAR(Abn) has filled its ranks with “tested volunteers.” This means that all Commissioned Officers must apply and assess for service in the 160th. This application process begins when you submit your packet and ends when you report for duty. The following is a brief overview of the process:
All aviation and non-aviation Commissioned Officers will attend one or more qualification program of instruction prior to reporting to their gaining unit. This training will be conducted by the Special Operations Aviation Training Battalion at Ft. Campbell, KY. The type of training and duration varies by MOS.

The 160th SOAR(Abn) incorporates a unique aviator progression and flight qualification program. This program is essential to the successful execution and completion of special operations missions and to providing Special Operations Ground Forces with the highest level of support. Regardless of previous aviation experience and qualifications, all aviators must complete the program requirements. The program has three tiers:
